An amazing development in
percussion from the enlightened minds at Tribal Thunder - it's one drum that
sounds like...well...at least four! "The Gemini"...exclusively from Tribal Thunder!

Ashiko "Pony" Drum:
(Named for the Celtic Horse Goddess
"Epona")
This is a
hybrid design that
Tribal Thunder developed - a perfect mix of
Ashiko and Djembe! The drums are built like the Ashiko (pine staves) but are
somewhat shorter with larger heads (like a Djembe). The large head and small
throat make for an incredibly powerful sound! The rings for this premium
drum are leather wrapped and there are more ties for greater stability and
balance in the head. Must be heard to be believed!
Basic "Pony": $280

A traditional African drum carved from
a single piece of wood. We generally import the bodies and skin them
ourselves; contact us for availability and
pricing.

Artwork
can be added to the skin using Henna - quite a striking appearance (pardon
the pun). |

Doumbek are found from North Africa,
throughout Turkey, the Middle East and across to India & Pakistan. They
have a very distinctive, "bright" sound. They are popularly associated
with music for Belly Dancing.
Doumbek are generally made with an
aluminium body with a key-tunable head made from either goatskin or mylar
(synthetic). This makes them small, light and very responsive to touch;
contact us for availability and pricing. |

Native to Northern India, the Tabla
is a unique drum that is heard in music throughout India, Pakistan, Sri
Lanka and frequently in popular music.
It's sound is unique - largely due
to the unusual method of stringing and tuning the head. The skin on the
head is, in fact, layered with a "hot spot", giving the Tabla a sound like
no other drum!
We import these original,
hand-crafted drums from India; contact us for
availability and pricing. |
